Fuel tax
According to a recent survey, more than every second person in the has one , and more than every fifth person has two cars in the UK. No wonder that the amount of the tax on gas is a common issue and must payed attention to.
A fuel tax, which is often called as fuel duty or oil duty is a tax included in every gallon of gas purchased in the UK. Such kind of tax exists since 1909 and was replaced with vehicle tax for a few years after the introduction, but this only have lasted for a short time. Since then it is considered as a stable tax bringing significant income to the public treasury.
The government, however, gives tax allowance related to fuel duty in some case, one of the most known is a tax discount for the national bus service. For many years a full tax exemption for the fuel of buses was provided, but it has been reduced recently in case of regular gas. The bio sourced fuels, however, still have a tax-free status for buses.
Fuel for airplanes are also exempt of fuel tax, but it is a global regulation from the international aviation convention.
